Bridport Leisure Centre is encouraging young people to keep fit and healthy.

The centre is offering a range of activities and classes aimed at those aged 13 to 16.

A spokesman said: "We all know there are huge benefits to be gained from keeping fit and healthy, but the younger demographic sometimes don’t have the inclination or the time to gain from these benefits and Bridport Leisure Centre have decided it’s time this was addressed.

"When kids enter their teens they have to juggle school with homework and other interests and possibly a part-time job, so taking care of their wellbeing takes a back seat.

"Keeping fit can help to build confidence, prevent obesity, decrease the risk of serious illnesses (such as heart disease and diabetes) and can improve academic performance.

"To help teens meet the physical and emotional challenges they face every day, Bridport Leisure Centre offer a wide range of activities such as swimming, squash and a state-of-the-art gym. Alongside these they have also devised a range of classes designed to support the health and mental wellbeing needs of 13 to 16 year olds."

Qualified instructors will deliver a broad range of classes throughout the week, to enable teen members to pick and choose classes to suit their interests and fit around their existing academic commitments.

This new programme begins in January and includes dance fit, yoga, circuits, Kinesis, studio cycling, swim fit and paddleboard fitness classes, plus unlimited use of the pool, squash courts and gym.

The spokesman added: "Teen exercise is not only great fun it also promotes teamwork and reduces stress and anxiety, it can also prevent depression and build self-esteem and body positivity.

"To sample the facilities and classes and feel the benefits, Bridport Leisure Centre are offering a free Active Teen 7 day pass."
