A Bridport primary school's parent teacher association has been selected to benefit from the Co-op Local Community Fund.

Salway Ash Primary School PTA's will receive the support of the Co-op. When members of the Co-op purchase certain products or services from the Co-op, they can get a five per cent reward, with a further one per cent going to local causes such as this.

The money raised for the PTA is due to go towards helping children's fitness equipment for their playground. The PTA often assists with helping to buy such things that fall outside of the school's budget.

A spokesperson said: "At a time when funds for community groups and charitable organisations are becoming more difficult to access, we’re incredibly grateful for this opportunity to make a real difference at Salway Ash primary school.

"The funds raised help to enrich the lives of all children within this village school. We are currently raising funds for some fitness equipment for our school playground which would enable the children to get fit and healthy and have fun together. This equipment will be a fantastic way to promote health and fitness for all our children and allow exercise to be a fun and sociable event. The equipment provides a selection of fitness functions for use by up to eight children at a time, improving the child’s circulation and great for the fight against obesity."
