Youngsters with a keen eye for photography wowed judges with their snaps.

A record number of students from both Beaminster School and the Sir John Colfox Academy entered this year's Brit Valley round of the Rotary International Young Photographer of the Year competition.

The 33 budding photographers entered photographs on the theme Through my eyes.

The difficult job of judging the images of pets, hikes in the hills, portraits and abstract pictures fell to well-known local photographer, Neil Barnes, who said: "The standard of images this year is incredibly high, and it’s great to see so many entries.’

Head of photography at Beaminster School, Paul Haigh, added: “It’s really wonderful to see students from every year group in the school taking part this year, from Year 7 right through to Year 12.”

Intermediate category winners were Daisy Channing (Year 9) who came first, Harriet Smith (Year 7) who came second and Molly Spain (Year 8) who came third.

Senior category winners were Tiegan Donovan (Year 12) in first place, Molly Pyper (Year 11) in second place and Ola Megger (Year 12) in third place.

The Beaminster School has thanked the Brit Valley Rotary Club for awarding the prizes which were presented to the winners by its president, Lindsey Blair.
