Drivers are once again being warned to take care on the roads after being called out to more than one incident involving cars stuck in flood water last night.

Fire crews from Dorchester and Bridport were called to Muckleford, between Winterbourne Abbas and Charminster, at 9.50pm to find a car and its occupants stuck in around a foot of flowing water.

Dorchester firefighters pulled alongside and rescued the people inside the car, after which the crew closed the road before returning to their stations.

Earlier the same day, Bridport firefighters were called to Cattistock, where a vehicle was found stranded in water and homes were flooded.

Crews waded into the water and pushed the stranded vehicle and its owner to safety.

Hay drags were used to clear debris from the stream, chimney rods were used to rod the drains and a hose was used, tied to a section of ladder and submerged in the water, to blast debris through the culvert.

Firefighters then dug a pathway through the bank to allow standing water to escape.

It also comes after firefighters were called to a 60-year-old woman who got stuck while travelling through a ford at Aller Lane near Ansty yesterday afternoon.

A Bridport Police spokesman said: "Remember to drive to the road conditions and if you are unsure about the depth of any water do not enter it, find an alternative route."
