Sir Oliver Letwin’s farewell column (Bridport News, November 7) showed how much he enjoyed meeting and introducing people, both at local and national level.
I have personal experience of his work to highlight to senior health officials the problem of prescribed drug dependence.
But he did much more than that, as Helen Cross wrote to you.
He was prepared to risk personal friendships in the wider cause of parliament, and he successfully brokered amendments that avoided the immediate threat of no deal Brexit. He will be hard to replace.
