NOVEMBER 14, 1969

Two objections were received to Lyme Regis Borough Council’s planning committee to Mr. E. J. Symonds’ application to provide an amusement arcade at the Cobb Beach.

Fears that the type of amusements envisaged might attract undesirable persons and be detrimental to the amenities of the area were expressed.

The Lyme Regis mothers have asked the chief constable of Dorset, Mr Arthur Hambleton, for an apology.

They allege that their sons were frightened by two detectives who made them empty their pockets in the main street. Finding nothing incriminating, the detectives made the boys get into a police car, drove them down the road and fired questions at them. The boys, they say, were treated like ‘hardened criminals’.

An 18-year-old girl is in America, attending a further year’s school.
