The committee meeting of the West Bay Community Forum heard the future arrangements for dredging of the harbour.

The outer harbour will be dredged annually, probably in March, whilst the inner harbour will receive treatment every three to four years. There was also considerable discussion about the planning application that has been given a firm 'no' by Bridport Town Council for the building of five dwellings in Station Road.

On Saturday at 3pm in The Salt House there will be a recital of clarinet and piano music from Russia, Hungary and Romania entitled 'War and Peace'. Tickets are £9 each on the door and children are free.

From Saturday until November 30, Harbour News will only be open from 8am until 11am daily for newspapers. This is to enable a major shop refurbishment to take place. I wish them well during the disruption this is likely to cause and look forward to seeing the end result.

Did you know Elizabeth Cole? I am sure that many readers of this column will have passed the time of day with her over the years without knowing her by name. She has lived on the Burton Road since 1976. Elizabeth was the spritely soul often seen sporting a bun of tightly combed grey hair who could be seen walking to and from West Bay to purchase her beloved Daily Telegraph. It was her daily task to complete the crossword in the newspaper before turning her attention to other matters. Until a couple of years ago she regularly used her pedal cycle to go shopping at Morrisons. Sadly, she has died aged 98 and her funeral will take place at Weymouth Crematorium on Tuesday, November 26 at 2.30pm.

Remembrance Sunday was kept in West Bay by a considerable crowd gathering under the church clock at 11am. Before the two minutes silence were kept a poem entitled 'Why do you wear a poppy, Beth?' was read. It is the explanation of why a young girl wears a poppy in memory of her submariner father who was killed at sea.
