A WOMAN has been injured after falling at a remote spot along the coast path.

Coastguards from West Bay and Lyme Regis were called to help the ambulance service after the walker slipped while on the South West Coast Path just south of Westhay Farm, near Charmouth.

Paramedics were with the woman, who'd injured her leg, but, due to the off-road location, they required assistance to get her back to the waiting ambulance.

Coastguards were alerted on Tuesday morning by Solent Coastguard NMOC (National Maritime Operations Centre) to a request for assistance from the ambulance service.

The Lyme Regis coastguard team was already responding to the incident and the West Bay team was also sent to assist.

Once on scene, the teams worked together to package the woman into a rescue stretcher before she was taken off the difficult terrain and back to the waiting ambulance.

"We wish the lady a full and speedy recovery," said a spokesman for West Bay Coastguard Rescue Team. "Stay safe on the coast, but if you find yourself in difficulty or if you see something which gives you cause for concern then dial 999 and ask for the coastguard."
