COMMUNITIES will come together this weekend to remember and honour those who have given their lives in conflicts.
Services and parades are being held throughout the county this Remembrance Sunday – here is a round-up of some of the main events happening locally.
A Remembrance Sunday Service and two minute silence will take place on Weymouth seafront from 10.55am at the war memorial opposite Hotel Prince Regent.
Mayor of Weymouth Graham Winter and representatives from veteran associations, cadets and youth organisations will lay wreaths.
Cllr Winter - who will lay a wreath on behalf of residents - said: “It is our solemn duty to remember those who were killed and injured in conflicts many years ago and those in more recent times.”
After the wreaths are laid, the parade will march along the Esplanade to the American war memorial, where a short service will take place to remember those who left the shores of Weymouth and Portland for D Day, and commemorate the 75th anniversary of the sinking of the S/S Leopoldville which was carrying 802 American soldiers.
Cllr Winter will also be attending the Royal British Legion Remembrance Service at Holy Trinity Church on Sunday November at 6.30pm, and the Royal British Legion Private Mourners Remembrance Service at the war memorial on Weymouth Esplanade on Monday, November 11 at 10.55am.
