An electricity company which powers Dorset is supporting customers as it supplies essential information detailing power cut emergencies in one fun pack.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) is working with Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service to spread the word on free additional services that it provides.

The electricity company, which supplies over 3.8 million homes and businesses including in Dorset, has produced free Winter Packs which will be distributed by local firefighters on their home visits.

The packs contain useful contact numbers, information on its Priority Services Register, a torch, pens and a magnet displaying the free-to-call emergency number.

Also, the packs provide information about further available assistance from the local water utilities. The environment has high significance to the company too as these products are contained in an eco-friendly, reusable cotton bag.

The packs have been designed to supply information to advise communities on how to get ready for the poor weather conditions faced in the winter months. Power cuts due to bad weather can leave the elderly vulnerable to the cold.

Joe Cherrett, SSEN’s Customer and Community Advisor for Wessex, met with Matt Kiddell of Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue to hand over a supply of the packs and said: “Now with the assistance of our local Fire and Rescue Service, our SSEN Winter Packs can be further distributed across the region, helping to reach a wider audience and ensure even more local residents are aware of the assistance available to them.”

Matt Kiddell, the Watch Manager based at Christchurch fire station, said: “Every day, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service staff carry out free ‘Safe and Well’ visits in the community. During these visits, we can provide and test smoke alarms, as well as talk about vital fire safety advice. Working in partnership with SSEN, we are now able to reduce the risk to our local community by delivering SSEN Winter packs whilst carrying out ‘Safe and Well’ checks. It’s so important to us that people know what to do during power cuts.”
