A rescued car boot sale is to support local causes.

Bridport Town Council is managing West Bay's car boot sale and grants are now to be awarded from funds raised in pitch fees.

The car boot sale, which runs on Sunday mornings at the West Bay Road car park, was saved from closure by the town council in 2018.

The pitch fees paid by sellers make up an annual grants fund that is open to community and voluntary groups benefitting one or more of the parishes of Allington, Askerswell, Bothenhampton and Walditch, Bradpole, Bridport, Burton Bradstock, Char Valley, Charmouth, Chideock, Litton Cheney, Loders, Netherbury, Powerstock and North Poorton, Puncknowle and Swyre, Shipton Gorge, Symondsbury and Upper Marshwood Vale.

Town council leader, Cllr Dave Rickard, said: “We’re very proud to have saved the car boot sale from closure as it’s a popular weekly event in the summer and a great way of supporting local good causes. The council absorbs the cost of running the boot sale, which means all of the money raised is available for grants.”

This year’s fund is approaching £14,000 in total and applications can now be made to the council, with maximum grant awards expected to be in the region of £500.

Guidance and application forms are available at bridport-tc.gov.uk, from the town council offices at Mountfield, Rax Lane, or Bridport Tourist Information Centre at Bucky Doo Square. You can also call 01308 456722.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on December 20, 2019.

A panel of local councillors will decide on the grant awards, which will be paid in March 2020.
