A person was plucked from rough seas yesterday afternoon in a dramatic rescue.
Emergency services, including coastguards from Lyme Regis and Beer, South Western Ambulance crews and the Lyme Regis RNLI lifeboat, were called to the River Axe.
It has now transpired that two people had been swept out to sea from the river and one of them managed to get to shore safely on their own.
The other was rescued by the Lyme Regis Lifeboat some 200 metres out to sea.
They were then taken to hospital by ambulance as they had ingested sea water.
Coastguards said despite their ordeal the pair had not been seriously injured.
