A person 'cut off by the tide' sparked a coastline search.
Coastguards from West Bay and Lyme Regis, alongside the Lyme Regis lifeboat, carried out searches around Charmouth on Tuesday night.
Flares were used to illuminate the area but, after an hour of searching, nobody was found to be in difficulty.
Further checks were made with both Dorset and Devon and Cornwall Police to see if they had received any calls for concern.
As no further information had been received, both teams were stood down and returned to station.
A coastguard spokesman has stressed the need for people to check tide times.
"We'd like to remind people to be aware of the tide and to check tide times before walking along the beaches," they said. "Stay safe on the coast, but if you find yourself in difficulty or if you see something which gives you cause for concern dial 999 and ask for the coastguard."
