A woman was rescued on a Dorset beach after injuring herself while climbing on some rocks.

West Bay Coastguard Rescue Team was called to reports that a 65-year-old woman had sutained injuries whilst climbing on the rock armour on West Beach at West Bay at about 12.30pm on Saturday, October 5.

Due to the woman's slightly awkward position on the rocks the team had to use a speed board and rescue stretcher to move her.

The team used a 'caterpillar technique' to get the woman to a waiting ambulance.

A spokesperson for the team said: "We wish the casualty a full and speedy recovery. We'd like to remind people that the rock armour around West Bay can be hazardous and warning signs are in place.

"Stay safe on the coast, but if you find yourself in difficulty or if you see something which gives you cause for concern then do not hesitate... dial 999 and ask for the coastguard."
