Campaigners took to the streets of west Dorset to gauge the public’s opinions on Brexit.

Members of West Dorset for Europe and supporters of the People’s Vote spoke to shoppers, visitors and residents in Bridport and Lyme Regis this month about a no deal Brexit and a petition calling on Sir Oliver Letwin MP to support a People’s Vote on any Brexit deal.

A ‘Brexitometer’ enabled people to show how they felt and share their opinion on what should happen, with organisers reporting the options for a ‘People’s Vote with the option to remain’ and ‘revoke Article 50 to stop Brexit’ proving three times more popular than the two leave options.

Barry Bates, a supporter of a People’s Vote, said: “We were so encouraged - the mood has definitely changed in favour of remain.

“People have been outraged at the prorogation of parliament and their MP being sacked from the Conservative Party.”

Belinda Bawden, a West Dorset for Europe organiser, added: “We know time is short, but people need to know that every day local groups are working to prevent a disastrous exit from the EU. To those out there who are keen to do something, I would urge you to make contact with your local group.”
