A couple and their car won multiple awards at a charity-supporting car rally.

David and Vicki Addey attended the Sherborne Historic Vehicle Rally in their rare 1962 Lancia Flaminia Zagato, and took home awards including the Westbury Garage Cup for the best overall car.

The Lancia was a real hit as it also won the Terry Dare Cup for classic 1960s cars and the Tim Macbean Cup for the most desired car.

David and Vicki did not go unnoticed as they were also awarded the Pedley and White Trophy for the most appropriately dressed occupants.

The event which took place on August Bank Holiday Sunday raised £3,000 for charities nominated by the Rotary Clubs of Sherborne, with the Sherborne Town Band and the Sherborne Area Youth and Community Centre being this year’s main beneficiaries.

Before the 180 veteran, vintage, and classic cars, motorcycles, and commercial vehicles lined up to impress the crowds in glorious hot weather, 53 vehicles participated in a 40-mile road run, taking in Henstridge Airfield for a photoshoot with the resident Tiger Moths.

Brian Chant, chairman of the organising committee said: “There was a wide cross section of vehicles, representing more than a century of motoring history.

“This year we were blessed with fine weather in stark contrast to last year when torrential rain deterred many participants. It meant that this year we raised half as much money again as last year and the total raised over the years is approaching £60,000 for local good causes.

Mr Chant added: “The success of this year’s event is especially poignant as long-time show secretary Chris MacAdie died during the run-up to the event. That it continued as a success is largely down to Bob Twiggins, who took over at short notice to co-ordinate entries and get everything running smoothly on the day.

“Event sponsors Hunt’s Foodservice, Greenslade Taylor Hunt, Porter Dodson, and Budgens are also due for big thanks for their solid commitment even after last year’s washout.”

The top award of the event, The Dorset Vintage and Classic Auctions Masterclass Trophy, was won by Mr J Ryley with his 1926 Rolls-Royce 20hp Park Ward Three Quarter Coupe.
