WEYMOUTH town council is to get its first electric vehicle – a second-hand van with a range of about 40 miles.
The vehicle, which will cost £13,500, has a caged body making it ideal for the council’s parks and open spaces. It has no need for an MoT and is exempt from road tax and can be re-charged overnight.
Members of the town council services committee approved the purchase at its meeting on Tuesday evening.
The committee also heard that staff had been trying electric hedge cutters and backpack blowers, both of which had been successful, and would use them once existing machinery reached the end of its life. Other electric powered maintenance tools, such as strimmers, are also being considered.
