The weekend has finally arrived and, once again, west Dorset is not short of things to do!

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20

  • Dorset Architectural Heritage Week continues this weekend, with a range of venues across west Dorset opening their doors to the public. For a full list of buildings and opening times, visit dahw.org.uk

 

  • As part of the Screen Bites Festival, Bohemian Rhapsody will be shown at The Hive Beach Café at 6pm for 7pm. Tickets cost £8, with a fish and chip supper in a paper cone available to order at screenbites.co.uk for £6.

 

  • Dorset Mammal Group presents ‘The Hedgehog Predicament’. Colin Varndell will be giving a talk with slides about hedgehogs at St Swithun’s Church Hall from 7.30pm. It costs £3 and for more information, email hedgehogs@dorsetmammalgroup.org.uk

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 21

  • Join Jurassic Coast ambassador Geoff Rowland on a guided walk of Golden Cap. Meet at Golden Cap Holiday Park for 10.30am, with the walk taking around two to three hours. Tickets cost £5, or £2.50 for members and are available from jurassiccoast.org/shop or by calling 01308 807000.

 

  • Horrible Histories The Movie (PG) will be screened at Bridport Electric Palace from 11am. Tickets cost £4.50 and are available from Bridport Tourist Information Centre. For more information, visit electricpalace.org.uk

 

  • The Chesterfields with Dai-Nichi and DJ Alan Flint will be performing at the Electric Palace from 7.30pm. Indie pop band The Chesterfields was formed in Yeovil 35 years ago and have released three albums but split in 1989. Tickets cost £8.50 in advance from Bridport Tourist Information centre or £10 on the door.

 

  • In and Out of Chekhov’s Shorts is coming to Bridport arts Centre at 7.30pm. Performed by a company of five and featuring original live music and storytelling, In and Out of Chekhov’s Shorts is a fun trip through some of the best of Chekhov’s short stories, including ‘The Lady with the Little Dog’, ‘The Chemist’s Wife’, ‘At a Summer Villa’, ‘An Avenger’ and ‘The Bear’.   • The Great British Beach Clean returns this weekend. Lend a helping hand to clean up West Bay’s West Beach between 2pm and 4pm and Charmouth Beach from 2.30pm to 4pm. There will also be a beach clean at Lyme Regis from 1.45pm at the slipway.

 

  • Jackdaw will be playing rock, soul and indie covers at the Crown Inn from 9pm.

 

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 22

  • Artey Williams will be at The Pursuit of Hoppiness from 5pm, singing songs you had forgotten you loved. Expect to hear covers from The Beatles, Chris Isaak, Van Morrison, John Legend, The Fureys, Goo Goo Dolls, Lady Antebellum, Peter Sarsdtedt, Smokey Robinson and lots more.

 

  • Robert Brown, an emerging singer songwriter with comparisons such as Nick drake, Davy Graham and Jimmy Page, will be performing at The Ropemakers pub from 4pm.

 

  • South Wessex Organ Society's series of Autumn Concerts presents Ricky Romain on sitar. Ricky has performed regularly across the country and in Europe since the early 1980s. He has been involved in collaborations and recordings with other performers of Indian classical music and practitioners from other genres including jazz, rock, folk and Western classical music. He is an associate lecturer in Indian classical music at the University of Plymouth. He will be at Lyme Regis Parish Church, Church Street, from 3pm. Free with a retiring collection.
