Friday, September 13 was a brilliant late summer's day leaving people wondering whether it was the start of an Indian summer.

The red ensign flew at half mast above the Harbour Master's office in acknowledgement of the funeral of the late Geoff Bolton who was a truly great character. Someone even commented that he was a living legend. The funeral service at St. John's was packed with many of Geoff's wide circle of friends and acquaintances. Geoff died on August 29 in his home at Parkdean. A Welsh man by origin, he lived in this part of the world in retirement and had a range of different jobs including helping Tom Marley at the West Bay Angling Centre and, more recently, as chief 'washer upper and general factotum' at Rachel's kiosk on the Mound. Among the hymns sung was 'Guide me O thou great Redeemer' that, given his Welsh origin, was a must. The cortege left the church escorted by the Harbour Master before making its way along the coast road to Weymouh Crematorium for the committal.
