Dog orders across the Dorset Council area could all comply to the same standards next year.
Changes to orders this year have been postponed to allow for a consultation to take place – with the existing legislation remaining in force until any changes are introduced.
The dog orders orders have been contentious in both Weymouth and Lyme Regis where many pet owners want greater and longer access to beaches.
Dorset Council is now hoping to harmonise all of the dog related Public Spaces Protection Orders in its area, with a single PSPO, drawing all of the former five orders into one.
To do this a 12-week public consultation exercise now needs to be undertaken, running until the end of December – which could mean another year passing before any changes are brought into force.
