More than 50 independent businesses supported a campaign to see customers spend £5 on their local high street.

Totally Locally Fiver Fest took place in Bridport in June, with 55 businesses offering a host of £5 special offers to encourage people to support local shops.

And the event is returning to town next month, with organisers hoping even more businesses, shops and service providers will take part.

The national event was thought up by Chris Sands to celebrate the range of independent shops and businesses in the UK and what a big contribution they make to the British economy. Residents and visitors to spend £5 in them rather than online or in a big supermarket.

The Totally locally Fiver Fest will come back to Bridport from October 5 to 12 and independent business owners are being invited to take part.

Team member Kim Squirrell is hoping for an even greater take up than last time and said: “The response in June far exceeded our expectations and the feedback from business owners and shoppers alike was positive and encouraging. People even stopped me in the street to let me know how impressed they were.

“It would be great to add more service providers and producers to the list, so anyone thinking about joining is welcome to get in touch and ask questions. There is also lots of information on the Totally locally website.”
