More fundraising events are planned to help support the resettlement of a Syrian family.

The community resettlement team of the Uplyme Community Sponsorship Scheme continues with a busy programme of fundraising events in Lyme Regis and Uplyme to support efforts to find a safe haven for a refugee family in the community.

The next event is Arabian nights storytelling evening, featuring tales form ‘1001 Nights’ with Martin Maudsley at the Masonic Hall, behind Galley Café on Broad Street, on Wednesday, September 18 from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

Inspired by the traditions of Arab and Persian culture, professional storyteller Martin weaves together a flying carpet of stories, with music by Andrea Crociani. Tickets cost £8, or £5 for those under 18 or unwaged, and are available from Lyme Regis Tourist Information Centre.

Bring a cushion to listen on the floor or use the chairs and enjoy refreshments before the storytelling begins or during the interval.

Other community events include a disco at The Hub on Saturday, September 28 from 8pm to 11pm, which will feature an eclectic mix of jazz, soul, disco, reggae, world, remixes and electronica with DJ Ayvin.

This will be followed by an Arabian night auction of promises and dinner at Uplyme Village Hall on Saturday, October 12 from 7pm to 11pm. promises range from a tea as the House of Commons with MPs to a stay in a holiday cabin, lessons in piano, guitar, tennis, gig rowing, German, drawing and Alexander technique, a dinner party for eight, hairstyling, a bird watching walk, a home extension and improvement plan and many more.

Together with an Arabian Nights themed dinner, the evening offers the opportunity to meet, mingle and try something new. Tickets cost £20 and must be booked in advance from Lyme Regis Tourist Information Centre or Uplyme Stores.
