Firefighters rushed to a house blaze amid concerns people were inside the building.

A fire broke out at a home on St Swithins Road, Bridport, just before midday yesterday (Wednesday) after residents and passers-by heard a smoke alarm sounding.

Two crews from Bridport responded but, en route, this was upgraded after concerns were raised there could be people inside and further appliances were sent to the scene.

Firefighters gained entry to the property and were met with hot conditions and zero visibility due to smoke.

The fire was located and extinguished using one hose reel jet and a full search of the property was completed using a thermal imaging camera, along with search techniques used in zero-visibility conditions.

Nobody was found in the property.

It was then ventilated so a further search could be carried out and to allow access for fire investigation officers.

Investigations are ongoing into the cause of the fire.
