A BEAUTY salon has opened in George Street in the premises previously occupied by 'The Trawlerman'. I understand they also do wet shaves for men and apparently they are the only establishment providing such a service for miles around. Trading under the name 'The Cove', they are all set for business. I have yet to pick up a price list, but I am assured their prices are very competitive and represent good value for money. I wish them every success.

As I write, the preparations for Melplash are well advanced with a considerable amount of canvas already erected. If you visit the show this year please call at the church tent on aisle C62, under the banner of Rural Hope. We aim to provide some comfort and support for those people and communities in the area that suffer from rural isolation and hardship.

On Sunday the Friends of Mountjoy School enjoyed a busy afternoon at their event in The Salt House, I am told there were plenty of lovely cakes for sale, but sadly I didn't make it across the bridge to see for myself.

Members of Churches Together in Bridport and District gathered under threatening skies and a strong breeze on Sunday afternoon for 'Songs of Praise' service. The musical accompaniment was provided by Virginia Bowley from Bradpole. Whilst there were not huge numbers present I was talking to a man from Cannock in Staffordshire after the service who is very active in his church. He became so engrossed in our conversation that he almost missed the X53 back to Weymouth.

Next Sunday at 4pm there will be another service on Harbour Green led by Reverend Peter Clarke of the United Church. If the weather is wet the service will be held in St. John's.

Next Sunday is the big fundraiser for the RNLI with all sorts of events and activities planned. I hope the weather holds and they make a lot of well earned cash for an excellent cause. Did anyone spot the news report during the week where a father sent the RNLI a bill for £7 for damaging his daughter's lilo when airlifting her to safety! Some people never cease to amaze me. What's your story of incredulous behaviour this summer?
