POLICE have said that a man seen throwing rocks from the top of a cliff in West Bay could have killed someone.

Police were made aware of reports of a man on the top of the cliff at East Beach, West Bay at 8.43pm yesterday.

The man was reportedly seen repeatedly sitting and standing on the edge and throwing stones onto the beach below.

Anglers on the beach first made the call to the coastguard because of their concern for the man and the danger of the rocks being thrown.

As a result of the man's behaviour, coastguard teams from Bridport and Lyme Regis along with the Lyme Regis RNLI inshore Lifeboat attended.

A thorough search on the cliff top and beach was made but the man was not found.

A spokesperson for Bridport Police said: "If you see people throwing stones from the cliff top onto the beach then call the police at the time as this behaviour is dangerous and could be potentially fatal should they hit someone."
