A lensman with an 'obsession’ over an iconic west Dorset landmark has unveiled a calendar dedicated to his muse.

Every day, Doug Chalk takes pictures of Colmers Hill, Symondsbury, and he’s already collated his 2020 calendar.

It was unveiled at a launch event at Bridport's Bridge House Hotel, which was well-attended by fans of the photographer's work.

Mr Chalk said: "I was truly humbled to be honest. I wasn't expecting so many people and I had so many apologies from folk who couldn't make it. I sold 18 calendars on the day, which was also a surprise with it being only July.

"I've never had a launch before, and was a bit nervous about it, but it did give me the opportunity to dispel the story from Julia Bradbury that I am a retired postman who now takes pictures. I was, in fact, a freelance way back in the 80s for about three years."

At the event, Mr Chalk spoke of his love for photography and the famous hill - with May being his favourite photograph in the next calendar.

"It's mainly because I remember the total body goosebumps I had during those few dramatic minutes before the sun actually actually appeared," he said. "The whole sky was so vibrant with colour - one of the very best sunrises I have witnessed."

Mr Chalk has been snapping Colmers Hill for seven years - and finds it as mesmerising now as he did all those years ago.

"It motivates me," he said. "It's a challenge to photograph the same thing and make it so different time after time. Mainly, I like the fact that it is loved so much by so many and it get sent all over the world.

"It's an obsession, addiction, whatever you wish to call it, and my archive is vast and ever-growing. This year I am taking 'one a day' and posting them on social media but in fact, on quite a few of those days, I take way more than one - but I only post one.

"I love what I do."
