Two kayakers were rescued after they became trapped on a beach for four hours due to strong winds and high seas.
At about 2pm on Sunday, August 18 the Wyke Coastguard Rescue Team was called out to a beach near to the White Nothe, where two kayakers had become trapped because of the severe weather conditions.
The Weymouth inshore lifeboat was called to help extract the kayakers by sea but due to the strong winds and high tide, this was deemed too risky.
Lulworth, Kimmeridge and St Alban coastguard rescue teams were also requested to assist due to the difficulty of the rescue.
The casualties were approximately 200 metres below the cliff so the crews set up some rope rescue equipment and sent one team member down to help the casualties.
It was then realised that the kayakers had no footwear and the extraction could not take place until some spare shoes arrived due to the difficulty of the extraction over loose rocks.
Eventually the kayakers were winched to safety one at a time, with both safe by 6pm.
They were placed in the warm coastguard vehicles and assessed for any injuries before the teams headed back to their stations.
