A west Dorset dad is showing his appreciation for the hospital staff that helped his premature son.

David Ledwith from Burton Bradstock is taking on the challenge of walking 21 miles from Yeovil District Hospital to his home in Barr Lane later this month to raise as much money as possible for the hospital’s special care baby unit.

David’s wife Sophie gave birth to their son Oscar on December 18 last year at Yeovil District Hospital. He was six weeks premature and had to be cared for by staff until he was well enough to come home.

David said: “The staff were simply the best. The love and care they showed us and our little boy was just incredible. We will never forget them.

“I am doing this walk just to say thank you to them for giving us the best thing to ever happen in our lives and for all the work they do in caring for every little boy and girl, and the support they show the parents in such a tough time.

“I am walking 21 miles from Yeovil District Hospital on Saturday, August 31, starting at 9am, to the house in Burton Bradstock where Oscar lives, as both my wife and I said we would do something in return to show our gratitude to these very special people.”
