UNBEATEN Weymouth were held to a 1-1 draw in their Vanarama National League South clash with 10-man Slough Town at Arbour Park.

Abdulai Baggie put the Terras into a fifth-minute lead after two rebounds but Slough’s Ben Harris levelled from the spot 20 minutes later after Stephane Zubar felled Matt Lench.

Weymouth twice hit the woodwork in a second half that saw substitute Francis Amartey sent off for a horrid challenge on Josh Wakefield.

The Terras pushed for a late win but could not break the Rebels’ defence.

Weymouth made four changes to the side that defeated Chelmsford City 4-1 on Saturday.

Wakefield and Cameron Murray earned their first starts of the season, while Zubar (rested) and Baggie (work) were recalled.

The quartet replaced Jordan Ngalo, Yemi Odubade, Andy Robinson and Jordan Rose, who was left out of the matchday day entirely. Jack Hoey was the only other absentee from the squad of 16.

Weymouth were given a rapid start by Baggie, who scored after a blistering counter.

Josh McQuoid saw an effort saved by goalkeeper Jack Turner and Ben Thomson’s follow-up was blocked on the line only as far as Baggie to sweep home.

Seconds later, Slough’s Sam Togwell had a goal ruled out for offside but the hosts settled and saw Dan Roberts fire wide amid growing Rebels’ pressure.

Slough were rewarded for their bright response to conceding when Zubar’s clumsy tackle upended Lench, allowing Harris to blast past Terras’ gloveman Calum Ward.

Soon after, Ward superbly denied Lee Togwell, the visitors were dealt a blow as McQuoid pulled up with a hamstring injury and was replaced by Ngalo.

Weymouth were denied a penalty of their own as Thomson went down in the box before Harris headed over as the sides went in level at half-time.

Five minutes into the half, Zubar was replaced by Robinson and the midfielder was instantly involved when Sam Sherring struck the post, smacking the rebound against the Slough defence.

Sherring showed fleet of foot to retreat and deny Roberts but Weymouth replied when Thomson had a goal chalked off for offside.

Substitute Amartey, who had replaced goalscorer Harris, was then shown a straight red for a poor high tackle on Wakefield with 15 minutes left and seconds later Thomson’s dangerous ball across the six-yard line was somehow missed by Ngalo.

Weymouth had a late penalty appeal waved away after a foul on Thomson by Turner, who was then lucky to see Wakefield’s 40-yard volley graze the crossbar.

Calvin Brooks and Thomson both whistled efforts wide in stoppage time as Slough held on to claim their first point of the season.
