Police are urging people enjoying the carnival this weekend to look out for bogus collectors.

Those watching Lyme Regis Carnival on Saturday evening are being asked to make sure that if they give a donation, it is to an official collector after reports of people imitating collectors in previous years.

The Lyme Regis Carnival collectors will be wearing a yellow carnival tabard and a yellow carnival lanyard around their neck. The collecting bucket will be sealed with a Lyme Regis Regatta and Carnival label on it.

A spokesman for Bridport Police said: "If you are in Lyme Regis enjoying one of the many events taking place as part of carnival week please ensure you donate to an official collector.

"There has been incidents in the past of fake collectors spotted during carnival week.

"All donations received are distributed amongst local worthy causes."
