MATT Randell is eager to pit his wits against Marnhull’s star all-rounder James Vitali when Portland Red Triangle travel to north Dorset in County Division One tomorrow (1.30pm).

Vitali was instrumental in securing the County Division Two title for Marnhull last season, plundering 779 runs at an average of 77.9.

However, the dangerman has not featured regularly for the promoted side in 2019, who languish in the bottom half of the table in seventh while Portland occupy fifth.

Triangle skipper Randell said: “Marnhull get stronger as the season goes on – they get some better player availability. I’ve noticed that James Vitali has been playing for the last few weeks and he’s a very dangerous player with bat and ball.

"It’s no surprise that he’s started playing and their results have started turning. He’ll be one of the players we look to target, try and get him out early and look to contain him and work at the other end.”

Randell added: “It always seems to be a good pitch when we go up there and I think we’ll look to cash in. We’ll probably take an extra batsman and look to bat them out of the game.”

Portland all-rounder Simon Proffitt’s two-game ban is up but the ex-Dorset Leopards man is unavailable. Ollie Whisker comes in along with Joe Adkins and Chris Leake.
