Treasure hunters will be able to have their findings identified at a finds identification morning this weekend.
Ciorstaidh Hayward Trevarthen, Dorset Finds liaison officer for the Portable Antiquities Scheme - jointly run by Dorset and Somerset councils - will be visiting Beaminster Museum on Saturday, August 17, for a free drop-in session.
The Portable Antiquities Scheme is a voluntary national scheme to record archaeological objects found by people in the area, including metal detector users.
This could be unusual pottery or old coins found in the garden, while on a walk or dug up somewhere in Dorset.
Ciorstaidh will look at what people bring along and identify it where possible.
If an item is of special interest, she may take it away, but it remains the finder’s property.
If you would like to bring something in, contact the museum in advance on 01308 863623 or email info.beaminstermuseum@gmail.com.
Ciorstaidh will be at the museum from 10.30am to 1pm.
