ABDULAI Baggie says it was always his intention to stay at Weymouth, after he agreed terms at the Terras for the forthcoming 2019/20 National League South season.

Baggie had been the subject of rumours linking him to a club in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South before his extended stay at Weymouth was confirmed.

Baggie told Echosport: “It took a while obviously to get over the line, but I think it was always my intention to stay because I have been there for two years now. It is a club on the up and for what we have achieved the past two seasons it has been fantastic.

“To be part of that again, moving forward, it was always pleasing to extend my contract.”

Baggie acknowledged the rumours, but says he is pleased to be staying at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

He said: “There were a few rumours, but I think at the end of the day, I have to look a bit further on and what was best for myself really, and moving forward.

“That was my main thing, I have worked hard for two years to get to where I have got to now and it is something I am looking

forward to carrying on for another season so for me I am pleased things got sorted in the end.

“All in all, I’ll move forward now and look forward to hopefully a good season.”

Baggie says the team and himself still want more, and hopes to surprise people this season.

Baggie said: “What is done is done, which was a massive achievement (last season’s promotion) for everyone, but it doesn’t stop there, at the end of the day, we still want more.

“I still want more individually, as a group as well we want collectively to do well as well and hopefully we will obviously surprise a few and hopefully have a good, solid, season.

Baggie has been part of a solid start to pre-season so far for the Terras, winning four and drawing one, the one draw being against Southend United, a team three leagues above Weymouth.

He scored the opening goal in that game, following some great work from Ben Thomson, after 13 minutes.

Baggie was also in the side that beat Poole Town 2-1, which saw the Terras launch a comeback after Josh Carmichael scored early in the second half, but goals from Stephane Zubar and Josh McQuoid sealed victory.
