Two men were arrested in Weymouth following a raid in which a number of suspected drugs were found, including Xanax.

This comes as Dorset Police ask parents to talk to their children about the dangers of Xanax, as more young people in Dorset are taking the potentially fatal illegal drug.

Police raided an address in Wyke Regis during the early hours of Friday, July 19.

As a result, two males were arrested on suspicion of drugs offences. A number of items were seized including a quantity of suspected Xanax and other suspected Class A and B drugs.

Both men have since been released under investigation while police enquiries continue.

In recent weeks Dorset Police has seen an increase in young people taking Xanax again. Now police are asking parents to speak to their children about the dangers of taking the drug.

Xanax, the brand name for the drug alprazolam, is a benzodiazepine and is used in some parts of the world to treat anxiety. It is not available in the UK on the NHS and is a Class C controlled drug.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “Over the last few weeks we have dealt with a number of young people who have taken the drug and have come to police attention. Please talk to your children about the dangers of taking any substance that has not been prescribed.”

Xanax can cause cardiac or respiratory difficulties, slow down reactions and can make a person feel drowsy, lethargic and forgetful.

These drugs can also lead to problems concentrating, headaches, vertigo and are very addictive. When taken with or even without alcohol they can slow the heart rate down to dangerous levels.

Police have previously stated how the consequences of taking Xanax can be very serious and even fatal.
