An animal welfare charity’s award-winning Chelsea Flower Show garden has been re-built at its east Devon headquarters.

The Donkey Sanctuary is showcasing its ‘Donkeys Matter’ garden at its Sidmouth centre, which scooped the ‘People’s Choice Award’ and a silver medal in the judges’ awards at the London show in May.

The garden, which was designed to showcase the charity’s international work and celebrate 50 years of transforming the lives of donkeys and mules, has been skilfully reconstructed for the public to see.

Using water as its central theme, the garden shows the dependency between people and their working donkeys in places such as Namibiam Lamu, Somaliland and Ethiopia. It demonstrates how owning a donkey means access to clean, fresh water for some of the poorest communities in the world.

The Donkey Sanctuary will also be featured on the CBBC show ‘The Pets Factor’ tomorrow (Friday) at 9.05am and repeated later in the day at 4.35pm, following a visit from James Greenwood, one of the show’s professional vets, earlier this year.
