A fire broke out at a campsite this evening (Wednesday).

Firefighters were called to a site in Bridport shortly before 10pm after a compost bin caught fire, damaging the side of a caravan.

They found a small camp fire had been lit close to the caravan and it was likely that it was not extinguished properly.

An ember had blown into an open compost bin, causing the fire.

On its social media page, Bridport Fire Station posted: 'Camping and camp fires go hand in hand together. However, it is an important reminder to always ensure that camp fires, BBQs, cigarettes etc. are always extinguished properly before leaving and that safety measures are always in place.'
