Anyone who wants to learn about the world of bats can attend a workshop aimed at beginners to the field.

The Kingcombe Centre near Toller Porcorum is offering a course titled 'An Introduction to Bats' on Tuesday, August 6 at 10am.

The course will introduce attendees to the ecology of bats, and will (weather permitting) include a bat watching session in the evening.

A spokesman said: "This one-day course will cover a variety of aspects of bat ecology and life history, tickling the tastes buds for further investigation.

"The basics of bat ecology will be covered, including anatomy, flight, life cycle and echolocation.

"We will consider this in the context of the 18 species of UK bat, their habitat use and conservation.

"There will be potential to see some bats in nearby bat boxes and (weather permitting) to watch roost emergence in the evening."

The course will be led Steve Masters, who is Dorset Wildlife Trust’s reserves and living landscapes evidence officer.

He is a member of Dorset Bat Group, and has ten years of experience working in wildlife conservation as well as a degree in Zoology with Conservation.

Attendees should bring weatherproof clothing. Anyone looking for further information or to book tickets should visit kingcombe.org/book
