At last week's meeting of the West Bay Community Forum, chairman John West welcomed the leader of Bridport Town Council, Cllr Dave Rickard. Cllr Rickard will attend the forum's regular meetings to keep them abreast of local issues. One such issue was the delay in completion of the work outside the George. This apparently is due to the lack of the appropriate materials to finish the seating in the centre. After discussion it was suggested the council could provide temporary seating. One member thought 'deck chairs' would be a good idea, but that did not receive overwhelming support from members.

It was noted that much of the harbour area is covered by CCTV cameras. These are for everyone's safety and security as well as monitoring cases of anti-social behaviour. This includes feeding seagulls and dog fouling. So be warned. Among the planning applications for the area is included one for Parkdean Holiday camp proposing the erection of glamping pods the touring field.

The dredging of the harbour was due to be completed on Monday following the temporary suspension of this work over the weekend to allow for the powerboat racing.

I am sure many motorists from near and far are grateful for the provision of the 'pop-up' car park on the field adjacent to the Britt Valley campsite over the weekend. This made parking easier for those attending the powerboat racing. Well done to all concerned, especially Bridport Sea Cadets, which manned the facility.

There were plenty of powerboats and jet skis to watch on both Saturday and Sunday. To my delight, Messrs H.R.Owen of Dartmouth brought some high performance and classic cars along too for a static display on the Esplanade. In addition to a modern Ferrari and a McLaren, there was a 1952 MG TD. It could produce an amazing 52HP and was a conventional rear axle car. A little shy of 30,000 of these cars were made between 1945 and 1955. This model was slightly faster and roomier than its predecessor the MG TC.

Next Sunday, July 14, the church will take part in the Rector's Ramble which plans to be in West Bay at Harbour House at 2pm. This is part of a parish wide initiative during which all six churches of the Bridport Team will be visited by walking pilgrims.
