SPORT-loving children have been recognised for their hard work and success.

Marshwood Primary Academy has scooped the School Games Mark silver award for the 2018/19 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community.

The school's sporting achievements this year include winning the tri-golf tournament for the Lyme Regis area, making it through to the finals at Bryanston, as well as taking part in football tournaments, tag rugby, Quad Kids, athletics, Kwik Cricket, netball and handball.

As part of the application process, the school was asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs.

Headteacher Luke Owen said: "With a total of 70 young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible. We are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year and are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

"A special thanks to all of the parents, governors and staff who have helped transport children to events and given their help and support throughout the year.
