Youngsters with the gift of the gab delved into some important issues at a debate.

The Rotary Club of Bridport held its fourth annual Junior Youth Speaks at Burton Bradstock WI Hall last week.

This year, three teams competed; two teams from Bridport Primary and one from St Mary's School.

The subjects chosen were 'Has sexism ended ?', Should people be able to marry at 16?' and 'The decline in the population of bees.'

After some excellent debating in front of an enthusiastic audience, the Bridport Primary ‘Fems’ team, consisting of Dan, Mani and Perry, were declared the overall winners.

The best speaker of the evening award was won by Milly Cameron from St Mary’s. Milly made what judges described as an 'outstanding' presentation and question answer on the subject of the declining bee population.

The adjudicators were Linda Croft and Debbie Brown.

Certificates were presented by the Bridport Rotary president, Chrissie Bailey. Book tokens were given to the winning team and the best speaker.
