CARE home staff, residents and their families are happy its fortunes have turned around.

Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors have rated Sidney Gale House, Bridport, 'good' across the board - confirming the service is safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

Inspectors spoke to residents and were told they felt safe at the home, on Flood Lane, and with staff. This was echoed by family members.

They found those who live there were protected from potential abuse and avoidable harm. Staff had regular safeguarding training and demonstrated a good understanding of how to protect people from abuse, according to inspectors, and felt confident concerns reported would be listened and responded to.

Provider Tricuro had effective safeguarding systems in place and, where safeguarding concerns had been identified, staff worked in partnership with the local authority and other professionals to ensure individual plans were in place to protect people.

Tricuro says it's delighted with the outcome, which comes almost two years after the service was rated inadequate by the CQC, resulting in enforcement action.

At that time, inspectors found elderly residents at the care home were not protected from the risk of abuse.

The manager of the home, who was running the service at the time of the inspection, had her registration cancelled and Tricuro’s registered manager, Lisa Warne, took on the position in August 2017.

Ms Warne has since been praised for ‘working tirelessly’ with staff to ensure significant improvements have been made.

Following its most recent inspection, when the CQC recognised the strong leadership at the home and how highly staff spoke of the registered manager, the CQC reported on the positive culture at the service, where staff felt listened to and supported.

Alison Waller, managing director of Tricuro, said: “We are so pleased that the inspection has reflected the high quality of personal care delivered at Sidney Gale House. This is a well-deserved accolade to Lisa, our registered manager, and her team who are dedicated to delivering such personalised and professional support to residents of Sidney Gale House and their families.

"The Tricuro board and senior management team has publicly thank Lisa and all her staff who have worked so hard to ensure the changes previously made have been embedded, sustained and improved on. We also appreciate the continued support to Sidney Gale from our residents, their families and the local community."
