A LOT of work is being done to help those suffering domestic abuse - and you can do your bit.

The Friends of Dorset Women’s Refuge will pitch up at Bucky Doo Square next weekend to promote the work of the group and to raise vital funds.

The Friends aim to raise money to support the women and children living in a local refuge and provide them with basic necessities such as bedding, towels and toiletries as well as to provide treats, such as days out in the summer and Christmas goodies.

On sale will be a selection of brand new and almost-new soft toys.

The toys have been donated to the Friends by a member who recently lost her daughter, and the group has decided to make the best use of the touching gift to raise funds for the women and children at the refuge who frequently arrive with nothing, having escaped their abusers.

Already this year, two women have been killed by their partners as a result of domestic abuse. In Dorset, police are frequently called out to deal with domestic violence, according to the group.

To show your support, head to Bucky Doo on June 29 from 9.30am onwards to find out how you can contribute and, hopefully, buy a toy to take home for your children.
