The A35 was closed for approximately seven hours following a crash this morning.
The road was closed in both directions after a crash between Dorchester and Bridport.
One car was involved in the crash, that occurred at about 7.50am.
An ambulance was at the scene, but there are no details being given about any injuries at this stage.
A telegraph pole was also struck and has fallen into the road.
There was heavy traffic between B3159 (Winterbourne Abbas) to A37 (Monkey Jump Roundabout, Poundbury).
Engineers arrived to assess the damage to the pole, which was blocking the road.
The road was closed for approximately seven hours as police awaited assistance from the local authority to repair or remove the pole.
The road was reopened at about 3pm, after the telegraph pole was removed from the road to allow traffic through.
The congestion in surrounding areas is now easing.
