What’s happening to the hedging around Mountfield?

After watching Spring Watch, it’s always a delight to see news of flora and fauna, especially in cities and towns.

With birds nesting now, why is the trashing of the hedging around Mountfield continuing? The removal of the hedge and various blossoms it contains will be a loss to nesting birds, bees and other wildlife.

The proposed replacement, a metal fence, will need be costly, need upkeep and no doubt weed killer will be used to prevent the ghastly green stuff from growing around it. Or are we going to have another yew hedge episode which took place by the lime tree?

Hedge grubbed out, hole replaced by a wooden gate, then yew hedge replanted to fill in said hole and cover wooden gate.
