A west Dorset organic vegetable grower has been named a finalist in the Best of Organic Market (BOOM) Awards.

Bothen Hill, based in Bothenhampton, will find out if its organic asparagus is a winner in the fresh produce category next week.

The BOOM Awards, run by the Soil Association, the UK’s largest organic certification body, and sponsored by organic grocer, Abel & Cole, celebrate the very best of organic, with winners set to be revealed at an awards ceremony at Oval Space in London on June 26.

The team at Bothen Hill is delighted that their asparagus has reached the finals of this prestigious competition.

The asparagus, which is available direct from the farm, at Bridport street market and through local farm and wholefood shops, is very popular and has a very loyal customer base.

Anita de Greeff, of Bothen Hill, said: “It is very rewarding to think that not only our local customers but also the judges think so much of the product.

“We are looking forward to the final.”

The 2019 BOOM Awards attracted more than 500 entrants, with a diverse range of submissions from ice cream to bone broth, packaging solutions to marketing campaigns.

Each food and drink product was blind tasted by industry experts, including chefs, organic producers, journalists and retailers.

Organic businesses often do things differently and the BOOM Awards will also celebrate pioneering production processes, product innovation and social change makers across a wide range of categories.
