A west Dorset restaurant is doing its bit for charity, but needs your support.

Sins Grill and Bar in East Street, Bridport, has come up with an idea for their customers to chose and make their perfect burger while supporting a local charity.

Owners Elle Hennenam and Jon Newman are offering a build your own burger menu, with a percentage of each one sold going to The Living Tree based in Bridport.

Elle said: “The build your own burger allows customers to choose from different ingredients and we are going to donate 45p from every one we sell to The Living Tree.

“I thought rather than have an individual event and one-off, we would donate from every build your own burger.”

Diners can create their perfect burger and will be able to chose from a range of patties, including beef, pork, chicken, lamb, venison, vegetable or halloumi, before choosing if they would like a brioche bun or a gluten free bun and salad.

There is a choice of Monterey Jack, blue, brie or Swiss cheese, topped with either bacon, peanut butter, onions, mushroom, jalapenos or pineapple and a range of sauces and dips.

The chosen charity for Sins’ build your own burger, The Living Tree, is a self-help cancer support group which meets to share experiences and offer support, as well as enjoy a range of activities and therapies.

Mecki Testroet, of The Living Tree, said: “With The Living Tree, the good thing is you have lots of people in the same situation who have been where you are just going and they can tell you what to expect.

“It takes the stress off of people.”

The charity is one that is close to Elle’s heart.

She added: “A friend of ours was very ill for a while and The Living tree gave him enormous support, as they did a young girl who worked for us.

“It is an amazing charity because one day everything is normal and the next day you can get a diagnosis that will turn your whole life upside down.

“We are very happy to support The Living Tree - it is such a great charity.”

Elle and Jon also own the Sins, Devilishly Good Food catering van by Bartletts in Shoe Lane, which they started nine years ago.

They were asked by customers if they would open a takeaway and delivery service in the evening, which inspired them to open the bar and grill in East Street, which has a Garden of Eden themed interior.

Sins offers takeaway and delivery service from 5pm to 10pm, seven days a week and the restaurant is open from 6.30pm to 9.30pm, Monday to Saturday.
