Ahoy there and beware, pirates are coming to town!

West Bay's annual pirates day will be making waves on Sunday, May 26, from 12pm to 5pm. The free event has been taking place since 2015 and is organised by West Bay Days.

A mix of games on the green will be entertaining for all ages, and visitors will be able to win tokens to exchange for prizes. A range of market stalls will be selling homemade treats and handmade gifts, and the Salt House will serve up tea, coffee, cakes and savoury bites.

At 1.30pm, local pirate band The Boarding Crew will take to the stage. Hailing from Chesil Bay, the group plays original music that tells tales of the true hardships of piracy.

All visitors are encouraged to come clothed in their finest pirate costumes. The fancy dress competition will be judged at 2.30pm, and a prize will be awarded to the best dressed.

The profits raised from the day will go towards supporting local groups and charities.

James Radcliffe, chairman of West Bay Days, said: "Our main beneficiaries this year will be Bridport Sea Cadets, West Bay Sea Scouts and Bridport's Youth Football Club. In 2018 we managed to raise more than £8000, and we're aiming for a similar amount this year."

Mr Radcliffe hopes that residents and tourists alike will come along and enjoy the day.

West Bay Days is a local organisation formed in 2012 and run by a group of dedicated volunteers. It works to support the future of West Bay, organising events for the benefit of the local community and to encourage visitors to the area. The group also arranges a bonfire night celebration on East Beach and the Christmas tree on Harbour Green.

West Bay Days' next event is the West Bay Day on Sunday, August 4. The event, whose roots can be traced back to 1844 when the celebration was known as the West Bay Regatta, will honour the area's rich history and heritage.
