THE REV'D PHILIP RINGER, WEST BAY CORRESPONDENT

Apparently the work of the East Beach is going quite well, although the contractors have discovered some remains which may be of archaeological interest. They have not commented on the progress of work on West Beach, but there is only a little time remaining before the date by which they committed to have both beaches open, ready for the summer school holidays.

Today, from 12noon until 3pm, there is a volunteer open day at the discovery centre. Be assured that you will enjoy volunteering at the centre and you are encouraged to drop in for a cuppa to discover what makes the centre special.

On Saturday afternoon, at 3pm in The Salt House, there will be a recital of music for the clarinet and piano performed by Anne Scolding - Perrett and Clare Sydenham. Tickets are £9 and available on the door.

The much awaited Pirates Day will be held on Sunday, May 26 with plenty to see and do between 12noon and 5pm. This is the first event of the year in West Bay Days' calendar. This small, but highly enthusiastic and energetic group of a dozen people put a huge amount of work into organising their events to support local charities. As well as the ever popular West Bay Day café in The Salt House, there will be pirate games and stalls on Harbour Green. Please come dressed as a pirate if you possibly can to add to the atmosphere! Come anyway and enjoy the fun.

Over 80 years ago two local men, Sydney Norman and Sam Gluning travelled to see the Bishop of Salisbury. As a result of that meeting, St. John's Church was built. Are there any relatives of either of these men around Bridport or West Bay today? It would be lovely if we could trace their families. Any help will be graciously received.
