Two west Dorset firefighters have been commended and recognised for their service.

Shane Read and watch manager Steve Pask, both members of staff at Bridport fire station, were presented with long service and good conduct medals at the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service annual awards ceremony last week.

These are given for 20 years of service.

A spokesperson for Bridport fire station said: “[A] very proud moment not only for the two who received their medals, but their families, the station as a whole, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service and the local community. Well done.”

The medals were presented on behalf of HM The Queen by the Lord Lieutenant of Dorset, Mr Angus Campbell, and Vice Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Mr William Wyldbore-Smith.

Other distinguished guest included Philip Warr, the High Sherriff of Dorset, Peter Holland, chief inspector of crown premises fire safety at the Home Office, members of Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Authority, representatives from the police, local councils and family and friends of those receiving medals.

Ben Ansell, chief fire officer, said: “Our annual awards ceremony is our chance to take stock, recognise the extraordinary work being done in all parts of our organisation, and to feel real pride in how we help individuals, businesses, partner agencies and the wider communities across Bournemouth, Christchurch, Dorset, Swindon and Wiltshire to live safer and healthier lives.

“It was an excellent evening and my thanks go to everyone who attended for their support.”
