Young people made their town proud at this year’s May fete, showing off their talents and supporting the community event.

The Lyme Regis May Fete has been hailed a success as large crowds descended on Anning Road Recreation Ground.

The annual event, which was held last Sunday, is organised by the Lyme Regis Carnival Committee.

Alan Vian, secretary of the Lyme Regis Carnival Committee, said: “The May fete attracted large crowds of people on a beautiful sunny May Sunday and 57 stalls were available for people to support, with 30 of them being from local organisations.

“To date, over £1,200 has been raised by those local organisations who keep all the proceeds from the afternoon.

“The fete was opened by the mayor of Lyme Regis, Cllr Michaela Ellis, and the arena events included displays by several of the local youth organisations. The Lyme Regis Majorettes put on a magnificent display followed by Elizabethan dancing by children from St Michael’s Primary School. They were resplendent in Elizabethan costume on a very hot afternoon.

“The Lyme Regis Taekwondo Club dazzled the crowd and music was played by the Steel the Show steel band.

“We are very proud of our young people and grateful to them all for supporting their community.

“Overall, we were delighted that this annual event in the Lyme Regis calendar was so successful and we were grateful to everyone who took part and for the support from Lyme Regis Town Council.”

The next event will the Lyme Regis Regatta and Carnival Week from August 3 to 11, with the carnival parade taking place through the town on Saturday, August 10, followed by the grand duck race on Sunday, August 11.
